Adding creativity to dance class.
As a ballet trained dancer I never got the chance to experience creativity during my early training but then, I started a little older so I didn't experience those "pre-ballet" years. My training was Vaganova style, very direct, strict, was told what to do and how to do it. I didn't get much opportunity to think creatively.
It wasn't until I was older that I was introduced to Creative Dance or that "Creative" aspect of dance and even though it was very difficult at the beginning I became a believer! Imagine being told your whole life move this way, do that and that, this way and all of the sudden "move as if you are dancing in whipped cream" I was like "wait, what?"
However, the more I learned about it, experience it in my own body and then later on taught it to my younger students, I could see the benefits and understand "why" in early dance training. It became clearer as I taught my students.
This type of training I feel is important in any dance class, and that is why I like to add it into our Summer classes, it enhances their dance training and experience!
Below is one of our classes practicing, exploring and even playing with some loco motor movements! Fun music, fun ideas makes students feel welcomed and excited in class. And that is an important reason to not miss Dance class!
Come join us this Summer!
